Team Environment at IGT is Unparalleled: Army Veteran and IGT VP Kamm LIVE

Patrick Kamm, IGT Vice President of Technology Operations and Global Program Management, joined GoLocal News Editor Kate Nagle LIVE on location to talk about his journey to IGT — and as an Army veteran, what it means to him to have the support of the company. 

Originally from Maine, Kamm spoke to how he made his way to Rhode Island for school at Portsmouth Abbey in the 1980s — and after serving in the military, made his way back to the Ocean State - with IGT.

“I joined the Army in 1990. At the time I was really trying to figure out what I wanted for my future. I was in great shape — I was an athlete as a kid — I really wanted to go for the most difficult schools and jobs that the army had to offer,” said Kamm, who was a member of the 10th Special Forces Group based in Europe. 

After his service, Kamm spoke to how he found IGT to be a match with his skills — and values.

“I didn’t know exactly where I was going to land, [but] what I did want to find was a company that had the same values and traits that the military had, in terms of esprit de corps, team environment, and a fast operational tempo,” said Kamm. “I really didn’t know the first thing about how complex these systems were — the systems, the networks, the games, the software — everything that goes into running a lottery.  I came out of the military with a great deal of real-world leadership experience and I was really enticed by the all of the flags outside the front of [then] GTECH world headquarters which represented all the countries they were working with.”

Kamm, who started as an infrastructure project manager and rose through the ranks, spoke to the 20 year he’s been with the company. 

“This company is really great in the sense there’s no shortage of work — the operational tempo is super fast, the team environment is unparalleled in any company I’ve ever spoken to or worked with,” said Kamm. 

Kamm spoke to just launching the worldwide veterans Diversity and Inclusion group at IGT, and what that means to him to have that network. 

“I’m a veteran, and that’s very important to me. My time in the military was a very special part of a family, it’s a select family that people opt into — and to have that veteran’s support group here at IGT is very important. We have a lot of veterans working here.
