Pollock’s Fast-Growing Composting Company Adds Value to Restaurants and Consumers

Leo Pollock of The Compost Plant joined Josh Fenton on GoLocal LIVE’s Business Monday to discuss his fast-growing company that collects food waste at restaurants and then transforms the product to high-value compost for the region’s local farms and for consumers.
Pollock says his business has grown significantly from one collection truck to three over the past couple of years and by working with Commerce RI to secure an Innovation Grant.
The funding has allowed the company to work with top experts at the University of Rhode Island.
Pollock’s co-founder Nat Harris has deep experience in the sector as he was one of the original founders of Newport Biodiesel — a company that collects waste grease from restaurants and turns it into fuel.
The Compost Plant’s top product is Rhode Gold and it can be found at local retailers and garden stores.
