Progressive Dem & RI Senate Candidate Bell on Guns, Medicaid, PawSox, Taxes, & Marijuana

Sam Bell
Former head of the Rhode Island Progressive Democrats of America Sam Bell joined GoLocal News Editor Kate Nagle in studio to talk about his announcement of running for Rhode Island State Senate in District 5.

Bell spoke to fighting guns -- and gun money, as well as taking on and helping to defeat the PawSox Providence stadium proposal in 2015, and how preserving Medicaid are all on his agenda for his run for the General Assembly.

“After 20 first graders were murdered in the tragedy at Newtown, I felt heartbroken,” said Bell. “Even though we couldn’t go back and save those children, I knew we had to do something to protect Rhode Islanders from gun violence. But when I talked to people about the NRA’s power in our statehouse, the conversation always came back to one thing: money. Everyone said we could never win gun control in our state because of all the money the NRA was giving our state’s most powerful legislators."
