Raimondo's Proposed Level-Funding of DCYF Not Adequate, Says Children's Friend CEO

David Caprio
David Caprio, President, and CEO of Children's Friend, joined GoLocal News Editor Kate Nagle in studio on GoLocal LIVE where he spoke to the Fiscal Year 2019 budget proposal put forth by Governor Gina Raimondo's administration -- which would level-fund DCYF for the coming year -- after DCYF's budget was cut by $7 million one year ago, which Caprio says means the department remains underfunded.

According to Caprio, who will testify on April 10 at the House Finance Committee,  over the last two and a half years, 27 children already known to child welfare program officials for abuse and neglect lost their lives – and the issues are not subsiding, with this year already seeing DCYF report two near-fatalities,

With Raimondo level funding DCYF’s budget for FY19 - despite the budget already being at a deficit from years prior -- the Administration has also announced that a settlement for a class action lawsuit filed against the agency will be taken out of DCYF’s budget.

"These budget cuts have real human implications," said Caprio.
