Rhodeside Revival's McManus & Costa Share Benefits on In-Home Composting

What started as a composting club at URI turned into Costa and MacManus’ small business.
“We are Rhode Island’s only curbside composting. We partnered with a great farm down in Charlestown, Rhode Island, called Earth Care Farm. Our big goal is to divert food and waste from the landfill, and everyone can play a part in this,” says MacManus.
With exorbitantly high rates of food waste, a small lifestyle change can make a big impact, Costa says “We take everything that comes from the earth. You can take everything you consume, and throw it in the bucket. Even coffee filters, paper towels, and single sheets of newspaper.”
Rhodeside Revival customers sign up for a monthly or bimonthly membership, where a bucket is delivered and picked up from their home. Raw and cooked food that would normally go to the landfill goes in the bucket, “We come by your home weekly or twice a month and take the bucket full of food waste and we leave a clean bucket for the week ahead and we bring that food waste away from the landfill and to the composting farm,” says Costa.
After processing the food waste at Earth Care Farm, Rhodeside Revival returns bagged compost to the customer. “For the cost of a few cups of coffee a month you are making a significant difference,” says MacManus.
