RI Food Fights' Nellis Previews the Best Burger Competition on LIVE

Jim Nellis of Rhode Island Food Fights is getting locals excited about food in the community.

For the month of May, Nellis’ Big Burger Blowout passport gives folks a chance to taste burgers from all over the state.

“For The Big Burger Blowout, participating restaurants agree to provide a complimentary burger to those that come in with a coupon from the RI Food Fights passport book. During the month of May, people will go around to the different restaurants and try the burgers and vote for their favorites.”

The passport contains at least twenty-five participating restaurants. At the end of the month, votes are cast for “the peoples choice” and “judges choice”, to create some fun, healthy competition for the title of “best burger RI”.

In addition to month long contests, Nellis hosts sell-out events where guests are able to taste dozens of restaurant offerings. On June 23rd Nellis will host The 8th annual Cupcake Championship, where cupcakes from all over the state will be sampled, and voted on. This year, the event will be hosted at The WaterFire Arts Center, on Valley Street.

In July, we have Bacon and Beer Fest to look forward to, which sells out every year. Over twenty restaurants team up with a craft beer brewery and serve their most creative takes on bacon.

“We have twenty-five restaurants bringing bacon-inspired dishes, and each is paired with a craft brewery. Two hundred early bird tickets sold out in nine minutes, so general tickets for this event are definitely going to sell out,” says Nellis, who also alludes to a possible BBQ and Beer Fest in the near future.
