The Institute has published the 2018 Voter’s Guide to help Rhode Islanders rate the six candidates for governor based on essential leadership qualities. The Voter’s Guide is available for free download HERE.
The guide enables voters to rate the candidates against multiple leadership criteria:
Focus: Can you identify one or two specific things the candidate promises to achieve?
Mold Public Opinion: Has the candidate told you where the state is, where he/she wants to take it, and how we will know if we are successful?
Unite Not Divide: How does the candidate manage conflict and build consensus? Does the candidate have a track record of bringing together diverse interests to solve a problem?
Get the Right People: Who are the candidate’s senior advisors? What organizations are supporting the candidacy?
Problem Solver: Has the candidate identified barriers to solving a problem and proposed a measurable solution?
Ethical Standards: Has the candidate run the campaign with the same high ethical standards by which they will run their office? Are the candidate’s commercials based on facts?
The guide does not evaluate the candidates. It provides a framework for voters to assess the capabilities of the gubernatorial candidates so they can cast an informed vote on November 6.

Sasse also discussed the overwhelming support of Rhode Islanders for Sasse's idea of a Bill of Rights for parents and students. A recent poll conducted for GoLocal by Harvard's John Della Volpe explored the question -- SEE THE POLL RESULTS BELOW.
