UHIP is "Abject Moral and Financial Failure," Says RI House Oversight Chair Serpa on LIVE

Rep. Pat Serpa
Rhode Island House Oversight Chair Patricia Serpa joined GoLocal News Editor Kate Nagle on GoLocal LIVE at the Rhode Island State House, where she spoke to her continued role in overseeing hearings on the struggled rollout of the state's social services platform, UHIP.

GoLocal recently interviewed UHIP food stamp Special Master Deming Sherman earlier in the week, who spoke to the potential for improvements -- and why he didn't believe the program, overall, can be fixed.

"I'm ready to say as Chair of Oversight - I'm ready to call this project an abject moral and financial failure," said Serpa. " A financial failure in terms of the citizens who are paying for it, and a moral failure in terms of the citizens who need the services."

Serpa spoke to the upcoming House Oversight Committee hearing next week -- and what issues she expects to raise regarding UHIP.
