18-Year-Old Killed in Route 195 Accident

On Sunday morning at approximately 2:20 am, Rhode Island State troopers from the Lincoln Barracks as well as members from the East Providence Fire Department, responded to a crash involving a single motor vehicle on Route 195 West in the City of East Providence.

 

Emergency response personnel found that a Honda sedan had been traveling on Route 195 West near the East Shore Expressway (Route 114). The vehicle lost control on the roadway during the heavy rain. The vehicle veered to the right across three lanes of travel and exited the right side of the roadway. It then struck a large rock.

According to the State Police, the vehicle then traveled left back across three lanes of travel and struck the high-speed barrier where it came to rest. The operator and lone occupant was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

 

The operator was identified as Jefferson Zaid Lara Romero, age 18. Romero was from Spain but was staying with family in Providence.
