Republican Governor Burgum Gives Emotional Appeal for Wearing Masks

NBC News Reports: 

Republican Gov. Doug Burgum of North Dakota issued an emotional plea for residents of his state to avoid "ideological or political" divides on the choice to wear face masks amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“If someone is wearing a mask, they’re not doing it to represent what political party they’re in or what candidates they support,” Burgum said during a press conference on Friday.

The governor's voice began breaking with emotion as he went on to say that people might wear a face mask "because they’ve got a 5-year-old child who’s been going through cancer treatments. They might have vulnerable adults in their life who currently have COVID, and they’re fighting.”

RI Not Alone Facing Massive Budget Deficit

As GoLocal first reported this week, Rhode Island's budget deficit for fiscal year 2020 and 2021 has ballooned to nearly $900 million.

The Ocean State, however, is not alone.

California projects budget deficits of $13.4 billion for the fiscal year ending June 30 and $40.9 billion for next year.

Another Retailer Filing for Bankruptcy

The Wall Street Journal is reporting "discount home-goods retailer Tuesday Morning Corp. is preparing to file for bankruptcy within days after the shutdown of its stores due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to people familiar with the matter."

The closest Tuesday Morning store is in Dedham, MA.

"The Dallas-based company, which has roughly 700 stores across the U.S., is planning to seek chapter 11 protection in Texas as early as this weekend after a debt default and the temporary store closures in late March, these people said. The off-price retailer is preparing to try to sell its business out of bankruptcy, one of the people said," according to the WSJ.

The company employs 9,000 workers.

NBA Looking to Return in July

The NBA has announced that they are in negotiations with Disney to use the Wide Wolrd of Sports facility in Orlando as a single site to resume their season.

The season would restart in July. They would be the first of the four major league sports to restart.
