7 Major Coronavirus Developments—March 24, 2020

The coronavirus is taking its toll across the country on the economy. The number of cases and the number of deaths is growing. 

In Rhode Island, cases topped 100 on Monday and in Massachusetts, the number of deaths grew to 9.

The numbers to watch are those being reported in New York City. Rhode Island is the second-most densely populated state -- second only to New Jersey. Rhode Island has 1,022 residents per square mile.

New York City’s coronavirus deaths increased to 125 people.

"The number represents an increase of 26 city fatalities since Sunday night. Since Monday morning the number of coronavirus cases in the Big Apple jumped from 12,339 to 13,119, according to City Hall. Queens, as of Monday night, had the most coronavirus cases of any borough with 3,848. Brooklyn was next with 3,742; Manhattan had 2,646, the Bronx tallied 1,999 and in Staten Island, there were 877.

The New York City region has emerged as the epicenter of the pandemic — accounting for roughly 5 percent of the world’s confirmed cases," according to the New York Post.
