This is my friend Lopez. This was taken at Manas Air Base in Kyrgyzstan; we were on our way into Aghanistan for the first time. Lopez was in the firefight that ended my other friend's life; he was shot in the leg about two minutes before my friend Brown was killed. Lopez is at Walter Reed Military Hospital now.
Joshua Boccanfuso grew up in Warwick and Cranston, went to Cranston West HS and the culinary program at the Cranston Area Career and Technical Center. He enrolled in the Army in October of 2008. Before his July leave, he was stationed at combat outpost Zerok in Afghanistan, and endured regular mortar attacks. He returned to Zerok in August. In special correspondence with GoLocalProv's Tracey Minkin, he shares his images and experiences with GoLocalProv readers. His next photo will appear on Friday.
