ACLU Says Prayer Displayed in Cranston School Is Illegal

The Rhode Island ACLU has asked Cranston West High School to take down a banner in a school auditorium that has a prayer printed on it. RI ACLU Executive Director Steven Brown said the organization contacted the school after a parent complained to his office. He said the display went against nearly half a century of Supreme Court decisions that say voluntary school-sponsored prayer is unconstitutional.
