After Fireworks Incident, North Providence Police Make Arson Arrest

North Providence Police on Tuesday announced an arson arrest following a fireworks incident over the weekend. 

According to police, on Saturday June 7, officers responded to the Spring Villa Apartments at 20 McGuire Road to assist North Providence Fire and Rescue after a series of fireworks were set off by a first-floor staircase. 

Police say there were no injuries reported but that there was minor damage to the staircase; police added that North Providence Fire Marshal and State Fire Marshal later deemed the staircase to be safe.

About Arrest

On Monday June 9, police say that after going through video footage, a subject who is a resident of the apartments was identified.

North Providence Police Detectives then arrested Gayleen Williams, age 55, for first-degree arson.

Police said that when North Providence Detectives executed a search warrant on Williams' apartment, they seized a box of various-sized commercial fireworks hidden underneath a mattress. 

Williams is being held without bail at the women's intake at the Adult Correctional Institute.
