AG Lynch Aims to Protect RI from Oil Spill Impact

Attorney General Patrick Lynch yesterday joined 10 other states in calling on British Petroleum to protect them from any harm the Gulf Coast oil spill might have as it spreads up the Atlantic Coast.

“We are aggressively pursuing any and all means of protection for Rhode Island, our residents and our businesses from any attacks on our Ocean State related to the tragic events now unfolding in the Gulf states and Florida as a result of the worst oil spill ever to occur,” Lynch said.

“The environment, residents and businesses of these states are all suffering, and we have to be prepared for any impacts on Rhode Island,” he added. “This is but the initial step.”

The attorneys general urged BP to promise that it would pay all legitimate claims arising from the oil spill and provide them with records on the explosion and the cleanup effort.

The other 10 states were: Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
