"The problem obviously is it took a long time for the Democrats to basically coalesce behind a nominee and so Democratic donors were dividing millions of dollars across a dozen candidates," said Lawless. "Now that it’s obviously pretty to clear to anybody — except Bernie Sanders — that Joe Biden will be the nominee, this would be the time where it shouldn’t be difficult for him to raise money. All those donors come home and they support their candidate."

"So that creates a major disadvantage for Biden — in the past we’ve had presidential candidates that generally don’t win or lose [on] the amount of money they raised because they’re never that far outspent from their opponent. This time the gap is very substantial and we’ve never been in a position like this."
"Trump’s proving himself almost every day at manipulating his relationships with corporate America. Almost every day at press conferences that they’re having for the task force on the pandemic, there is some corporate entity or CEO who jumps in front of the camera and gives a message — that’s a powerful tool for the President," said Lawless.
“He’s constantly talking about yes, protecting public health, but almost equally or more so most days talking about the need to get America back to business,” said Lawless. “That’s got to be a problem for Joe Biden — Trump is sort of sucking up that portion of the donor base.”
