Bill Focuses on Integrity and Accountability in Government

A state rep is proposing a bill that he says will give citizens the tools to prosecute public officials who violate the public trust.

Under the bill, “corrupt behavior” by a public servant would be a felony punishable up to 10 years in prison, a fine of $150,000, or both. The bill would give the state Attorney General additional tools aggressively prosecute corrupt public officials.

State Rep. Peter Kilmartin, a Democrat from Pawtucket, will unveil his the “Government Integrity and Public Accountability Act of 2010” at a press conference tomorrow. The event is 2:30 p.m. in the House Lounge of the State House.
