Bill: Public Records Must Be Available in Seven Days

A bill that would make public records more accessible to the public will come before the Rhode Island Senate Judiciary Committee today.

The bill, 2010-S 2471, would mandate that town councils, school boards, and other public bodies provide public records within seven business days of a request. The bill also prohibits citizens from having to provide personal information or a reason for wanting the records.
