Bills Would Stop School Boards from Suing Towns For Money
Several state senators are tripping over themselves in a race to repeal a decade-old law that allows school boards to sue towns for additional funds. Four state senators have filed four separate, slightly different bills to reverse the law. They include: Sen. Lou Raptakis, S 2033; Sen. William Walaska, S 2182; Sen. Edward O’Neill, S 2436; Sen. Charles Levesque, S 2480. A fifth bill says that school contracts have to be ratified by the “local taxing authority.” The bill, S 2404, is sponsored by Sen. Michael Pinga. The bills will come before the Senate Education Committee for a heating this Wednesday in Room 212 at the conclusion of the full Senate session.
