BREAKING NEWS: Taveras Appoints City Solicitor

Providence Mayor Angel Taveras announced today he had appointed Jeffrey Padwa to serve as City Solicitor, replacing Adrian Southgate, a David Cicilline appointee.

“I am very pleased that Jeff Padwa has agreed to serve in my administration,” Taveras said. “Jeff is a remarkably talented attorney who will leave a very successful private practice to bring important expertise to city government. I have no doubt that he will represent the City of Providence with great integrity and intelligence.”

Padwa, who is licensed to practice law in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, has 18 years of experience as an attorney and runs his own private legal practice. He specializes in issues of elderly safety. He is the former president of the Rhode Island Association for Justice and has served on the boards of the American Association for Justice and the Jewish Community Center of Rhode Island.

“I am honored to serve in Mayor Taveras’ administration. It is a rare opportunity to join such a dynamic, committed team of professionals who are so clearly working in support of the greater public good,” Padwa said. “ I am looking forward to serving the people of Providence as City Solicitor.”

Taveras submitted his name for approval to the city council earlier today. In a statement, Council President Michael Solomon said he supported the appointment. The appointment is expected to be confirmed in the next few weeks.
