One Dead in Providence Police Standoff With Gunman

One person has been killed in the standoff Thursday morning between an armed gunman and Providence police. 

According to police, it was the gunman who was found dead in the house. 

No police or civilians were reportedly injured.

Latest Development

On Thursday morning, police said that they had a report of a gunman in a house. 

“We have a lone gunman inside 25 Denison St. SRU is on scene negotiating,” Providence Police Tweeted at 5 AM. “No one has been injured.”

The house is located off Branch Avenue — just blocks from Esek Hopkins Middle School. 

“Avoid the area, expect delays. People in the immediate area are to shelter in place,” Providence Police continued in their statement. 

At approximately 6:30 AM, police said the gunman was shooting. 

"Update: multiple shots are being fired from inside 25 Denison St. Everyone must continue to shelter in place. The surrounding area is in lockdown."
