BREAKING: Providence Councilman Involved in Hit-and-Run

Ward 6 City Councilman Michael Correia is out of the hospital after being struck by a car on Atwells Avenue early Saturday evening, a City Council spokesman has confirmed.

It is still unclear how serious his injuries are.

The hit-and-run took place less than a mile from where another Councilman, Terrence Hassett, was nearly killed after being after being involved hit-and-run just one year ago. This incident did not take place in the Federal Hill section of Atwells Ave.

Correia, a first-term Councilman, represents part of Atwells Avenue beginning at the corner of Academy Avenue until the street merges with Manton Avenue. The Ward 6 Democratic Headquarters is located at 925 Atwells Avenue.
