UPDATED: Standoff on Federal Hill Between Man With Gun and Providence Police Ends Peacefully

GoLocal has learned that a gunman is holed up in an apartment on Atwells Avenue.

According to law enforcement sources, the incident began when a man brandished a weapon at a Providence Police officer and then ran to an adjacent building.

Much of Atwells is closed off starting at the corner of Dean Street.

Providence Police sources inform GoLocal that at approximately 4:00 PM, the man surrendered to authorities.
