Brown University announced that it has extended Christina Paxson’s contract as the president of the school.
“Noting her strong and constant leadership and her accomplished track record in advancing Brown’s mission of education and research, the Corporation of Brown University has unanimously approved the extension of President Christina H. Paxson’s appointment for an additional two years, from its current end date of June 30, 2026, to June 30, 2028,” wrote the University in the announcement.
According to the most recent publicly available IRS 990 for the University, Paxson's compensation is $1,831,198.
“Princeton University's Christina H. Paxson will replace Ruth Simmons as the 19th President of Brown University, multiple sources tell GoLocalProv. Brown has confirmed Paxson's appointment. Paxson currently is the Dean of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and is the Hughes Rogers Professor of Economics and Public Affairs,” GoLocal reported at the time.
Chancellor Brian T. Moynihan announced the extension in a Tuesday, May 27, letter to the Brown community.
He commended Paxson’s successes in "strengthening Brown’s education and research enterprise through new programs and facilities, enhancing financial support for students, and growing relationships with partners in Providence and Rhode Island, among many other accomplishments."
“During a tumultuous time facing American higher education, Brown is fortunate to benefit from President Paxson’s steady and principled leadership,” Moynihan wrote. “We are excited that the University will continue to benefit from her strategic vision, boundless energy, unwavering dedication and fortitude during periods of momentous change. Our community has been made stronger by her sincere belief in all the good that Brown can do in the world.”
