Brown to Confer Six Honorary Doctorates at 2015 Commencement

Brown University will be conferring six honorary doctorates at its 2015 commencement exercises on Sunday, May 24. 

One of the recipients is Robert Corigan, the recently-retired president of San Francisco State University and an American studies scholar. A graduate of Brown, Corigan has been involved in higher education administration since 1973. He has served as schools such as UMass-Boston, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and the University of Maryland-College Park.

Another recipient is Louise Lamphere, a former anthropology professor at the University of New Mexico. She is a distinguished professor emerita of anthropology at the University of New Mexico who began her academic career at Brown in 1968.

David McKinney finished a 36-year career at IBM, retiring as the President and CEO of IBM Europe in 1992. After that, he became the President of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. McKinney became involved with Brown when he was elected to a six-year term on the Board of Trustees in 1990 and then an 11-year term on the Board of Fellows starting in 1999. 

Tracee Ellis Ross graduated from Brown University in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in theater arts. Ross is known for her comedic roles as Joan Clayton in Girlfriends and more recently as Dr. Rainbow Johnson in the series Black-ish. 

Susan Solomon is the Ellen Swallow Richards Professor of Atmospheric Chemistry and Climate Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is the founding director of MIT's Environmental Solutions Initiative. 

Kathryn Sullivan is one of the first six women select to join the NASA astronaut corps. In a 15-year career with NASA, she flew three shuttle missions, including the 1990 mission by Space Shuttle Discovery that launched the Hubble telescope.
