Candidates, Incumbents to Sign Pledge to Appoint More Women to Public Sector Positions

A Steering Committee of local women leaders, under the guidance of the Women’s Fund of Rhode Island, have come together to form the Rhode Island Government Appointments Project (RI-GAP), an effort to increase the number of women appointed by the governor to cabinet level positions, boards, and commissions in the public sector. According to the Women's Fund of Rhode Island, women hold an average of 31% of state cabinet and high-level government positions nationwide, while American women comprise 52% of the population. In Rhode Island, only 15% of governor-appointed positions are held by women.

On Thursday, October 21 at 2:30pm, RI-GAP Steering Committee co-chairs Susan Farmer and Sue Stenhouse, and Tina Benik, Board Chair for the Women’s Fund of Rhode Island will host Ken Block, Treasurer Frank Caprio, Former Senator Lincoln Chafee, and John Robitaille as they join together to sign the RI-GAP Gubernatorial candidate pledge.

The ceremony will take place in the Atrium Lobby of the Rhode Island Department of Administration.
