Cyber Bulling on Air
Last week, GoLocalProv.com talked to David Kane, Esq., Director and Chief Editor of the Center for Education Law, Policy and Practices located at the East Bay Educational Collaborative in Warren in advance of his keynote address, “The Good, The Bad & The Ugly – The Impact of Technology on Our Children,” that he presented to teachers, parents, administrators and student at the Community College of Rhode Island Newport campus. This weekend, Capitol TV, the television broadcast arm of the Rhode Island General Assembly, will broadcast a related hearing by the Special Senate Commission to Study and Make Recommendations Related to the Problem of Cyberthreats, Cyberbullying, Bullying and Sexting that was held at the Western Hills Middle School in Cranston at the end of October.
Reaching Rhode Islanders
It was the second “road” hearing of the panel and one of several more that are expected to be held around the state during the next few months. The public hearing was preceded by a brief speaking program that featured Peter Nero, Superintendent of Cranston schools, a slide show on bullying prepared and presented by several Cranston High School students, and a panel discussion by a number of Cranston teachers and members of the school guidance office. The study commission was created this year and is being chaired by Sen. John J. Tassoni Jr. (D-Dist. 22, Smithfield , North Smithfield ). Also serving on the panel is Sen. Beatrice A. Lanzi (D-Dist. 26, Cranston).
The airings of the program will be presented by Capitol TV on the following dates and times:
Friday, November 5am, 7am., 4 p.m., 11:30pm
Saturday, November 6am, 10am., 4:30pm
Sunday, November 7am, 10am, 11:30pm
Capitol TV programming is presented on Channel 15 for Cox and Full Channel subscribers and on Channel 34 for Verizon customers.
