Carol Anne Costa: Memorial Day -- A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

It is in the images of Memorial Day the sacrifices of many become clear. The simple beauty of a crepe poppy is where the understanding of  toll of war is made obvious and that red flower becomes a connection to the next generation. The enduring memorials, names carved in stone, hand placed flags on headstones, forged placards chronicling dates and conflicts help us to realize these dedications and memoriams are the work of grateful Americans. And, where the stones worn through the passage of time cannot diminish the effort and passion of those who thought to build them, fund them, tend them and place them so carefully for each generation to remember.
