CCRI Faculty Support Leading Critic of Free Tuition Program Stripped of Department Chair

After GoLocalProv.com first broke the story last week that CCRI President Meghan Hughes stripped leading critic of Governor Gina Raimondo's free tuition program of his department chair, faculty are responding

“I have the support of my faculty, all highly respected members of the community,” said CCRI Faculty Association President Steve Murray.

“The allegations made by Dean Busby and VP Costigan are baseless and obvious retaliation for my work on behalf of our students, staff and faculty. President Hughes terminated my appointment as Chair, without even giving me the courtesy and opportunity to hear my side of this,” said Murray. “Is that the type of leader we want at our College? One hundred and sixty faculty members have already voted "No Confidence" in her leadership, and her actions here continue to damage her reputation.”

“I have no doubt that Hughes' actions against me are motivated by my work as CCRIFA President, and that I will be vindicated,” said Murray.

When GoLocal first reported the story, CCRI said the college “does not comment on personnel matters.”
