Central Falls Boy Scout Sebastian Zuleta Receives National Honor

17-year-old Eagle Scout Sebastian Zuleta from Central Falls was one of ten Scouts chosen from around the nation to hand-deliver the Boy Scouts of America’s "Report to the Nation" in Washington, DC last week.  The report is presented annually to the nation’s leaders and details Scouting’s impact on communities across the country.  Last week, Sebastian traveled to Washington, DC to meet with members of President Obama’s Cabinet, as well as top leadership of the House and Senate, along with members of Rhode Island’s congressional delegation.

“This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Sebastian, and well deserved for his achievements and involvement in the local community,” said John Mosby, Scout Executive/CEO of the Narragansett Council, Boy Scouts of America.  “While in the nation’s capital, Sebastian represented the nearly three million young people who make up the Scouting program in the United States, and shared Scouting’s accomplishments in the past year with top government officials.” 

“We are so proud of Sebastian for being selected for this unique event,” Mosby added.

Sebastian is currently a senior at Central Falls High School where he is a member of the National Honor Society and serves as a Student Ambassador for the school.  His extracurricular activities include serving as a volunteer for the Special Olympics, participation on the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council, S.M.I.L.E (Science and Math Investigative Learning Experiences), College Crusaders of Rhode Island and the state’s first school Emergency Response Team.  After high school, Sebastian looks forward to joining the military.  He hopes to be accepted into the United States Naval Academy and become a Navy SEAL.

“I am honored and grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in this Scouting tradition,” Sebastian said.  “Scouting has taught me so many things in life, most importantly that we need to serve others in our community and lead by example.  I look forward to sharing the Report to the Nation with our elected leaders, and showing them the good works that Scouting is producing across the country.”

Before presenting the report to federal leaders, Sebastian and the nine other Scouts spent a week in Washington visiting the Goddard Space Center, United States Naval Academy, Natural History Museum, Pentagon, Arlington Cemetery, Supreme Court, Capitol, the White House and the U.S. Treasury. 

“Sebastian is a reliable individual with integrity and potential,” said Sebastian’s first Scoutmaster, Juan Osorio, Development Director of the Narragansett Council, Boy Scouts of America. “He is a positive role model in everything that he does and all of the younger Scouts in the Troop look up to him.  He is always striving for the next challenge, and we look forward to witnessing the many successes Sebastian will most certainly attain in his lifetime.”
