The man who reportedly assaulted the police officer was 24-year-old Louis Stevenson.
Then, a second man tried to grab the officer who was being assaulted by Stevenson, said police. A second officer then took Stevenson to the ground, and he repeatedly resisted arrest, according to police.
Providence Police say they delivered blows to Stevenson to gain control and that they threatened to use a Taser but did not. Police say they then gained control of his hands and placed him under arrest.
All police in the city of Providence on duty responded, as well as RI State Troopers and K-9 Units, who then dispersed a crowd of approximately 300-400 people that were still loitering in and around the Club Noir.
The patrolman assaulted by Stevenson was taken to the hospital for treatment of an injury to his arm.
