Cicilline Back in District, Holds Jobs Roundtable

Congressman David Cicilline yesterday kicked off the first meeting of his Jobs and Economy Advisory Committee—the first in a series of advisory committee meetings.

The topic for yesterday’s meeting was job creation and Cicilline invited 30 business owners and representatives to take part in the discussion.

At the meeting, Cicilline announced he had co-signed legislation that would end what he described as one of the “burdensome provisions” of the health care reform law—a requirement that businesses send IRS 1099 forms for every business-to-business transaction that involves $600 or more.

“As a result of what I’ve heard from business owners in our state regarding this cumbersome reporting requirement, I have co-sponsored legislation that would repeal it,” Cicilline said. “Small business owners are already overburdened with tax paperwork and reporting requirements. Repealing this provision before it takes effect is something I consider critical to protecting small business owners as we continue to recover from this economic downturn.”
