Cicilline Implores House to Reject "Making College More Expensive Act"

"The idea that, as a country, we make money on the pursuit by young people of their education is plain wrong," Cicilline said. “Rather than continuing to charge students higher interest rates so they can afford a college education, we should be working to make college more affordable for everyone. I am frustrated that after so many months of gridlock, the Republican leadership forced another controversial bill through the House on a largely party line vote this afternoon.”
H.R. 1911 would allow students to lock in at today’s historically low interest rates, but would also expose them them to potential increases each year – preventing students from knowing how much they will owe for their college education. Last week, the Rhode Island legislator announced his support for a package of three bills that would prevent the doubling of student loan interest rates on July 1st.
