The traits listed under Muhammad are negative by nature, and include hatred, intolerance, and misogyny.

"I find it offensive," said NAACP Providence Branch President James Vincent.  "I don't know the First Amemendment rules, but I feel it's uncalled for.  It doesn't help us here in Rhode Island in terms of inclusion.  It just hurts people unnecessarily."

"This is ignorance and propoganda," said James Monteiro with the Billy Taylor House in Providence. "And a school committee member?  That's sad.  Especially in light of recent events." In February, the Islamic School of Rhode Island was subject to vandalism, and law authorities are looking for a suspect based on pictures."

"This is meant to be inciting," said Monteiro.  "That school official should absolutely be reprimanded."

In the comment section below the post, Florio states, “I know this post has sparked a discussion. I am a proud Catholic. Yes I know we have not been perfect. We have a great leader in Pope Francis. This is the 21st century not the 1st, eight or 15th. The evil that is being done is not being done by all. However beheadings, stoning to death, flogging, sex slaves etc.. We are suppose to civilized !! Bengazi . Look at you tube and see how these folks tortured our ambassador to death for hours.”

In another post further down in the discussion Florio states, “Sorry if I offended anyone. I stiil love all of you.”

“I intend facebook not to be a blog but to inform. Look at NYC, Boston , London , Paris and what they are doing around the world. We cannot make believe this is not happening. Just like WWII it is creeping up on us. I for one do not intend to die at the hands of madmen. Thats it on this subject. I will say no more.”

The posting was brought to the attention of GoLocalProv by a parent in Coventry, who said that they felt Florio was promoting “hate speech” on his Facebook page.

Florio did not respond to a request for comment from GoLocalProv.
