"The police officer immediately pulled up on the vehicle and noticed a male later identified as Matthew Reilly who appeared to be having a medical episode. The officer noticed a glass pipe commonly used for illegal narcotics and a lighter in his possession. Reilly woke up and appeared disoriented. The officer felt Reilly showed signs of a potential overdose and needed to be evaluated. Cranston Rescue was contacted and responded to provide medical attention regarding the potential overdose," according to Cranston Police.

“A search of the vehicle resulted in a seizure of a white rock-like substance which tested positive for crack cocaine and fentanyl. After a short evaluation and monitoring by rescue personnel, Reilly refused treatment and appeared to be stable,” according to the police.

Reilly, age 41,  was then taken into custody, arrested and charged with one count of Possession of Schedule II narcotics in violation of R.I. General Laws 21-28-4.01(C)(1)(a).

Reilly was brought to Cranston Police headquarters where he was later arraigned by a bail commissioner and released pending a hearing in 3rd District Court on June 15th, 2023 in Courtroom 2C.

Editor's Note: Reilly represents Ward 6, an earlier version mistakenly wrote Ward 4.
