Cranston Fire, Police Dept. to Participate in National Night Out

National Night Out will take place at Garden City
The Cranston Police and Fire Department have announced that they will participate in the 35th annual “National Night Out” at Garden City.

“National Night Out” will take place on Tuesday, August 7 beginning at 6 p.m. and will end at 8 p.m.

“We are proud to help coordinate our first National Night Out event ever held in Cranston. Events such as these are occurring nationwide and provide an opportunity for members of our police and fire departments to come together with our residents for a fun, family orientated evening. Positive interactions between public safety personnel and the residents we serve foster a sentiment of mutual trust and ultimately safer communities. I want to thank the many officers and firefighters from our respective departments who will be participating in the event, Garden City Center for volunteering to serve as the host venue, as well as the many vendors who graciously agreed to donate their time, food and merchandise,” said Colonel Michael Winquist.

The event will consist of activities for the kids in addition to a static display by all of police and fire’s special teams, units, motorcycles, fire trucks, rescues and police vehicles of all design. Many of the police and fire’s community partners will be on hand as well: CCAP Substance Abuse Task Force, CODAC, Blue Cross / Blue Shield of Rhode Island, the Rhode Island Secretary of State’s unclaimed property task force, the Cranston Public Library, the Cranston YMCA, and the Jim Pagano Foundation.

Mayor Allan Fung added, “I commend our police and fire departments for taking part in the annual National Night Out at Garden City this year and urge all Cranston residents to come and meet the men and women who work to keep Cranston safe and secure day and night. Cranston’s participation in National Night Out reflects our commitment to the community policing model and will help us continue building strong collaborations between our police and diverse community. Programs like this are the reason Cranston is nationally-recognized as one of the best cities to live in America”.
