Deadly Crash on Block Island: Juvenile Killed, One Facing Life-Threatening Injuries, Third Charged

Rhode Island State Police and New Shoreham Police are reporting a tragic accident on Block Island.

Sunday at 12:30 PM, the Rhode Island State Police and New Shoreham Police responded to a reported serious motor vehicle crash on West Side Road in New Shoreham. 

None of the names have been released.

As a result of the crash, a juvenile male sustained fatal injuries and a second juvenile male passenger was life-flighted from the scene to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries, according to the State Police.

A female juvenile operator was identified at the scene and she is being held at the Rhode Island Training School and will be presented to Family Court on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, on the following charges:

- Driving under the influence of liquor or drugs, resulting in death, RIGL § 31-27-2.2
- Driving under the influence of liquor or drugs, resulting in serious bodily, RIGL § 31-27-2.6
- Driving so as to endanger, resulting in death, RIGL § 31-27-1
- Driving so as to endanger, resulting in serious bodily injury, RIGL § 31-27-1.1

The crash remains under investigation and no further details are being released at this time.
