Do You Think Crime in Providence Has Gotten Worse?

With gun violence on the rise across the city, murders are up 300% over the same period last year (from 4 to 12), including a triple homicide that took place this week.  In addition, Mayor Angel Taveras helped to balance the City of Providence budget by reducing the staffing of the Police Department.

In contrast, according to Police Dept. data violent crime is decreasing.  According to crime statistics provided by the Police Dept., violent crime is down 10 percent, property crimes are down 11 percent and other crimes (which includes weapons offenses, drugs, assault, vandalism and liquor law violations) are nearly identical to where they were last year.
