East Providence Committee to Vote on Teacher Contract

The East Providence School Committee will vote tomorrow on a new contract for about 500 teachers in the school district, according to 630 WPRO, a GoLocalProv media partner.

The contract, which the teacher union has approved, has salary and benefit cuts that the committee passed last year. The new contract also calls for a longer school day and academic year as well as larger class sizes at the high and middle schools. According to the deal, the teachers would drop their unfair labor complaint against the district for a plan to pay them based on their performance rather than seniority, according to WPRO.
