Seal of the U.S. Department of Justice
GoLocal has secured a copy of a subpoena issued by a federal grand jury requesting financial information linked to two North Providence Police officers.

The subpoena was issued to the City of North Providence in March of 2020 and requested testimony before the grand jury and the production of documents relating to Dennis Stone — now a Lieutenant with the North Providence — and fellow officer Detective Christopher Petteruti.

For a number of years, the two were top officers in the Fraternal Organization of Police in North Providence.

The subpoena requested the city produce documents relating to “payments made to the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #13 of North Providence, R.I., including but not limited to, the transmittal of union dues or assessments withheld from employees’ salaries.”

The federal investigation centers on the use of union funds while Stone served as president and Petteruti was the treasurer.

Specifically, the subpoena sought records between January 2013 and January 2019.

According to multiple sources with direct knowledge, the FOP was also issued a subpoena.

GoLocal reached out to Stone and Petteruti by phone and text. Neither of the officers responded to questions about the investigation.

Today, Stone is the Prosecution Division Commander for the North Providence Police.

Now, RI Attorney General Is Investigating

In addition, GoLocal has learned that the U.S. Justice Department has referred the matter to Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha’s office for prosecution, specifically the Public Integrity Unit.

That unit “investigates and prosecutes crimes committed by state employees and officials in the course of their duties, including crimes related to violations of elections and campaign laws.”
