Fauci Tells Congress College Opening in Fall “Bit of a Bridge Too Far”

Dr. Anthony Fauci in testimony before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions said that he believes the reopening of colleges this fall may be unlikely.

In a hypothetical question posed by the Committee Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-TN) about the opening of college campuses this coming fall. Fauci said, “Well, I would be very realistic with the chancellor and tell … her that in this case that the idea of having treatments available or a vaccine to facilitate the reentry of students into the fall term would be something that would be a bit of a bridge too far.”

Fauci who is the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health testified before the committee on Tuesday along with Robert Redfield, MD, the Director, United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; Admiral Brett Giroir, MD, Assistant Secretary For Health United States Department of Health and Human Services; and Stephen Hahn, MD, Commissioner Of Food And Drugs United States Food and Drug Administration.

Fauci, Redfield, and Hahn are all under self-imposed quarantine after two White House staffers tested positive for the coronavirus.
