“I had just crossed the square, I was the one who called the cops,” said White, who said it occurred around 1:30 AM Monday morning — and that he gave the police the plates.

“The idiot who hit the fountain and took off forgot his bumper and it had his Massachusetts plate on it,” said White. “So when the police dispatch asked if I got the plate — I said yes, I’ve got the plate — in my hands.”

White said he believes the cement blocks weight 1000 pounds each.

Latest for Fountain

The damage marks the latest in the fountain in the news — in 2018, GoLocal was first to report that the Elorza administration temporarily filled in the iconic federal hill fountain in — with plants.

The administration pledged to fix the fountain following the controversy — and during the mayoral campaign season, it became a point of debate, with candidate Bob DeRobbio blasting Elorza for letting the fountain fall into disrepair.
