Following Nazi Protest, Mt. Hope Community Rallies Around Socialist Library & Against Racism

The “rally against racism” was held in response to the incident this week in which a reading of the “Communist Manifesto” at a socialist library on the neighborhood reportedly drew neo-Nazi and fascist protesters— and the response of a half dozen police cruisers.
“In response to the Nazi racists that stormed Camp Street the other night, longtime residents of the East Side’s Mount Hope [neighborhood] will be rallying in support of the newly formed entity on Cape Street known as Red Ink,” wrote community organizer James Monteiro ahead of the event.

The night of the protests, the Black Lives Matter RI PAC issued the following statement.
“There is no greater threat to America than nazism and white supremacy. Earlier this evening, an organized group of neo-nazis that have established themselves throughout Rhode Island terrorized Red Ink Community Library in Providence Ward 3.”
