NEW: FOP Reaches Agreement With City

The city and the Providence Police Union have reached an agreement that will result in zero layoffs for the officers, a city official confirmed Friday morning.

Under the agreement, none of the 78 police officers that received layoff notices recently will be laid off and the Police Union will reportedly not receive raises. The city has called a 1:30pm press conference to make the announcement. No other details about the contract have been released.

The police are now the third major union to reach an agreement with the city in recent weeks. Earlier this week, the Fire Union reached a deal that will also result in layoffs. The Teachers Union is the only group that has yet to come to terms with the city.
