Former EPA Administrator Spalding Joins Brown Environmental Institute

Former U.S. EPA Administrator for New England H. Curtis Spalding has joined the Institute at Brown for Environment and Society as a professor of the practice. 

“Joining IBES is the opportunity I was looking for. My career has been about helping highly talented people in environmental organizations achieve their goals for the betterment of communities across New England. Continuing that commitment with IBES is a wonderful opportunity,” said Spalding.

Prior to serving the Obama Administration as EPA Administrator, Spalding led Save The Bay in Providence as executive director for more than 18 years. 

Spalding’s experience in the environmental protection field includes serving as an advocate, policy analyst, and administrator.

Widely recognized as one of New England’s most accomplished environmental leaders, he will share his insights and help IBES develop strategies and actions that will have real impact on the lives of everyone living in Rhode Island and New England,” said IBES Director Amanda Lynch. 

Spalding’s accomplishments include the development of the Save The Bay Center in Providence, and ecosystem plans to restore and protect New England’s iconic waters, including Lake Champlain, Cape Cod, the southern New England coast, Long Island Sound and Great Bay.
