Gambling Bill to Go Before House Committee

The bill would put a constitutional amendment before Rhode Island voters, that if approved, would permit gambling at Newport Grand and Twin Rivers. Voters in Newport and Lincoln also would need to OK casino gambling in their communities.
Supporters of the measure warn that new gaming operations in Connecticut could take money away from video lottery facilities in Rhode Island. A Rhode Island casino would generate tax revenue, create jobs, and spur economic development, according to the bill’s sponsors.
