GoLocal LIVE in Paris -- 84,000 Yellow Vests Protest Chaotic Due to Explosion

Paris was chaotic on Saturday when an explosion rocked one sector of the city killing two. At first, many thought the explosion was tied to the yellow vest protests or a terror attack.

But, the explosion that killed four firefighters and 37 injured was reportedly gas related.

The Local reported, "The explosion, which smashed windows in surrounding buildings and damaged a number of parked cars, occurred at around 9am at a bakery (boulangerie) on Rue de Trévise in the busy 9th arrondissement of the city." 

According to the French Department of Interior, an estimated 84,000 protested on Saturday.

The U.S. Embassy in France warned of the activity on Saturday:

Saturday demonstrations by the “Gilets Jaunes” (yellow vests) are expected to continue.  The group is protesting fuel prices and taxes, and other government policies.  Previous demonstrations have become violent with police response including water cannons and/or tear gas.  In addition to the demonstrations in major cities, organizers continue to call for traffic interruptions and blockades throughout France.  At highway toll stations, protesters have set up barricades and set fire to pallets.

According to Politico.eu, French police made nearly 60 arrests in Paris and dozens more in cities across the country following violent clashes with Yellow Jackets protesters.

GoLocal was LIVE in the city's opera district, where police waited at the ready on side streets as yellow vests marched by the thousands.  Police were stopping people they deemed of interest, including those carrying large duffle bags, for security purposes.
