Group of Juveniles Beat 14-Year-Old at Hope High School, Knife Found at Basketball Game
Hope High School principal Francisco Velasquez reported the beating to Providence Police.
And, in what is believed to be a separate incident on Friday, a knife with a 3-inch blade was found just outside the gym at the school while a basketball game was being played.

These are the latest episodes in a year of violence at Providence schools.
During this school year, the principal at Mount Pleasant High School, Wobberson Torchon, was assaulted, and multiple guns have been found at the school.

In October, a student tried to grab the gun of Providence Police student resource officer Mica Water’s gun.
Earlier this month, Providence police had several people in custody following an incident involving a gun at Mt. Pleasant High School.
According to police, a fight broke out in the stands during a basketball game at the school.
Following a report of a gun, multiple police officers were called in for backup.
In December, Governor Dan McKee visited Mount Pleasant High School to tour and meet with staff.
In another room in the high school, the school resource officer was disarming a student who was carrying a gun. According to Providence Police Detectives Major David Lapatin, the student was arrested and transported to Central Station.
Police seized the gun, which Lapatin said contained no ammunition. The student was also in possession of a knife, which was confiscated by police as well.
In an earlier incident this past fall, a middle school student was arrested with a loaded gun at Del Sesto Middle School.
