Heat Index Values to Exceed 100 Degrees in RI - Details on Cooling Centers, Pools and More

Heat indexes are expected to exceed 100 degrees.
On Wednesday, Rhode Island urged residents to take precautions.

Water parks and pools in Providence are offering extended hours, 12:00pm – 7:00pm, Thursday, July 27 and Friday, July 28.
On Saturday July 29 all City water parks and pools will be open 12:00pm-5:00pm.

...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THURSDAY TO 8 PM
EDT FRIDAY...
* WHAT...Heat index values 95 to 104 degrees both Thursday and
Friday afternoons.
* WHERE...Most of Southern New England except for the east
slopes of the Berkshires and the immediate south coast.
* WHEN...From 11 AM Thursday to 8 PM EDT Friday. The worst of
the conditions will be from noon to 6 pm on both Thursday and
Friday afternoons.
* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
illnesses to occur.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young
children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
under any circumstances.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when
possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent
rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone
overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
