ICE Arrests in Rhode Island Up 182% Under Trump

In Rhode Island, the number of arrests by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has jumped 182% under President Donald Trump’s administration.

A new report by the New York Times finds, “Immigration arrests have increased nationwide and more than doubled in 38 states in the months since President Trump took office, new data shows. Many states have seen even larger surges in enforcement activity in the last few weeks, after Mr. Trump’s top immigration adviser, Stephen Miller, demanded that agents make every effort to increase arrests.”

Since Trump entered office in January, ICE has made 250 arrests in Rhode Island.

In Rhode Island, there is an average of 1.7 arrests per day.

 

Protests in Rhode Island

In Rhode Island, the actions of the Trump administration have drawn numerous protests.

In June, demonstrators in Providence protested the actions by ICE and the Trump administration's immigration policies.

The protesters began on Empire Street and marched down Weybossett Street around the Turks Head Building and up Westminster Street to the federal office building.

In March, a protest led by members of the Southeast Asian community in Rhode Island was held “to fight back against racist ICE terror and the detention and deportation of Southeast Asian community members.”
